> White Flint Metro Parking
Construction of the long-awaited Montgomery County conference center and an
adjoining 10-story, 225-room Marriott hotel is scheduled to begin February 1.
The project, to be known as the White Flint Conference Center and Bethesda Marriott
North, will provide much needed conference and meeting space in the County and
is seen as a key component in further enhancing the County's growth as a technology
hub.
With the start of construction, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority
(Metro) White Flint West Parking Lot currently on the conference center site
will close February 1. Alternative parking is available at the White Flint East
Metro Parking Lot, the Maryland Route 355/Montrose Commuter Parking Lot, and
at 450 long-term parking meters on streets surrounding the White Flint Metro
station (see attached
pdf map or

Alternative Parking
The site of the conference center, currently a Metro parking lot, will be
closed on February 1. Alternative parking is available at:
- The White Flint East Metro Parking Lot, located east of Maryland Route
355 at Marinelli Road, which is owned by Metro. This lot was opened to provide
parking to commuters displaced due to conference center construction.
Parkers pay a daily rate of $2.25 by presenting a valid
rail-to-bus transfer from a station other than White Flint, or by using a
SmarTrip card that has recorded Metrorail usage from a station other than
White Flint to pay for parking. Without a transfer or SmarTrip card containing
this ridership record, the rate is $6 a day.
- The Montrose/Maryland Route 355 Commuter Parking Lot,
located at the southwest corner of Maryland Route 355 and Montrose Road,
adjoins the Mid-Pike Plaza shopping center. Metro operates a free shuttle bus,
Route S95, between the lot and the White Flint Metro station. The shuttle
operates every 10 minutes on weekdays between 6:30 and 9:20 a.m. and 4 and
6:50
p.m. The permit application can be obtained from the Department of
Public Works and Transportation's website at http://www.dpwt.com/parking/permapp.htm,
in-person at the Montgomery County Parking Operations Permit Sales Office
at 1104 Spring Street, Suite 100, Silver Spring, by calling the Permit Sales
office at 240-777-8744, or by calling the North
Bethesda Transportation Management District office at 301-770-1474. (Commuters
should be aware that cars parked in the shopping center parking lot outside
the permit parking area will be towed.)
A monthly North Bethesda parking pass (parking convenience
sticker permit), which costs $45, is required to park in the Montrose/Maryland
Route 355 Commuter Parking Lot. Between February 1 and February 14, commuters
will be able to obtain a two-week parking pass and monthly permit application
at the lot between 6 and 9 a.m. Starting February 17, parkers must have a
monthly permit. The monthly permit application can also be obtained:
- From the County's website at
http://www.dpwt.com/parking/permapp.htm
- In-person at the Montgomery County Parking Operations Permit Sales
Office at 1104 Spring Street, Suite 100, Silver Spring
- By calling the Permit Sales office at 240-777-8744
- By calling the North Bethesda Transportation Management District office
at 301-770-1474
Commuters should be aware that cars parked in the Mid-Pike Shopping
Center parking lot outside the designated permit parking area may be towed by
the shopping center owner.
- About 450 on-street, metered, 12-hour parking spaces are
located around the White Flint Metro station on the following streets: Nebel
Street, Old Georgetown Road, "Old" Old Georgetown Road (behind the Mid-Pike
Plaza shopping center), Woodglen Drive, Marinelli Road, Executive Boulevard,
and Nicholson Court. Meters accept quarters and CashKeys, or parkers can
display a valid North Bethesda parking permit.
The CashKey, which looks like a key and can be carried on a key ring, adds
time to a parking meter without the need for cash. The CashKey allows parkers to
prepay for parking and can be obtained from the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional
Service Center at 4805 Edgemoor Lane in Bethesda; the Mid-County Regional
Services Center at 2424 Reedie Drive in Wheaton; the North Bethesda
Transportation Management Office at 5640 Nicholson Lane, Suite 224, Rockville;
or the Parking Operations Office at 1104 Spring Street, Silver Spring 20910. Call the
Parking Operations Office at 240-777-8740 weekdays for more information about
obtaining a CashKey. Additional information on the CashKey system is available
on the County's website at:
http://www.dpwt.com/parking/cashkey.htm.
For recorded information about parking, call the North Bethesda
Transportation Management District office at 301-770-1474, or leave a message
and your call will be returned.
